Personalise Your Home Through Decorative Displays

A house is not a home without the personal touches of the people who live there, which is why we love adding niches and shelves, built-ins and display spaces for the decorative items we love when we design our homes. Here are some examples of how you can add your own personality by creating display corners in your home.

1. Sculptural Shelves

One of the most common ways used to display art and books, and other decorative items, are shelves. But shelves don’t need to be just boring planks, you can also invest in a piece of design like the metal and timber sculptural set in this stylish Hillside Drive apartment.

2. Stylish Storage

The ceiling to floor storage unit in this Corals at Keppel Bay living space has been used to define the dining area while also creating useful but stylish storage for family favourites.

3. Decorative Display

One way to create an elegant and luxurious interior space is to create bespoke display options for your special pieces, like this Orientalist style display cabinet in this Bellewaters apartment. The precious objects are on either side of the television area. The really clever thing is that you can slide the decorative screens over the television to show off your art pieces, and hide the TV.

4. Bedroom Beauty

Living spaces aren’t the only spots you can show off your style. This pretty Eastvale bedroom has a number of interesting built-in features for displaying decorative items, as well as offering a handy spot for your books next to your bed as well.

5. Handy Hanging

This very clever mix of a desk, a divider and storage space in this Bendemeer apartment makes great use of the space, while also being streamlined enough to tie into the overall Minimal Style of the home. The mix of pale timber and black steel also blends into the colours of the room to make it appear to take up less space than it does.

6. Lovely Light Boxes

Tucked behind the sofa in this D’Nest apartment living area, these timber shelves have been turned into gallery style light boxes to show off delicate ceramics and to create a contrast to the other, darker colours in the room.

7. Pretty Pegboard

Pegboards are a hot interior design trend right now, and are a great way to add a useful piece of decoration into your home. Usually made of timber, like the one in this Jewel @ Buangkok apartment, pegboards offer a variety of ways to display your items - either via the ‘pegs’ or by using a shelf that rests on the pegs. This is a great choice for Scandinavian Style interiors.
